R.A was born in Rabbitown Georgia and the youngest of 8 children. He dropped out of school at 12 to start working at a cotton gin. He started making art in his late 60s when the onset of glaucoma made it hard for him to keep raising hogs. He was also a baptist preacher. He enjoyed painting “Lord Love You” on tin or wood.
The character “Blow Oskar” was directly adapted from a cousin who would drive all wild past the house and blow his horn every time. Blow Oskar’s little wild tail is currently headed up the stairs to nap during yet another rainy Memphis evening.
